Bad news from the tangible space, in times when we discuss on-line identity. The Brazilian Newspaper “O Globo” of this Sunday (12/03) reports that 1 in each 5 kids and teenagers involved in crimes (we call them acts of transgression when practiced by kids or teenagers in Brazil) in the year 2000 are still today a lacuna in the Civil Identification databases of the State of Rio de Janeiro (the actual numbers are 475 from 2.363 transgressors).
Some of them were prosecuted with completely fake personal data or still today don’t have an identification document. As a result, some are imprisoned together with older criminals, as if they were beyond juvenile age. And if this happens in Rio de Janeiro, imagine in other states… A recent case involving a 15-year-old girl who was imprisoned in a cell with 20 adult males in the state of ParĂ¡ — with the obvious consequences of that — has shocked Brazilian Society.
